Salsa Northwest support for the 1 Billion Rising Campaign 2015

On Valentines Day 2015 SalsaNorthwest participated in the 1 Billion Rising Campaign. We met at Healthy Planet in Preston to dance against violence on women.

Participants danced to the 1 Billion Rising Campaign Song “Break the Chain” which was created to set a sign against violence on women. This worldwide campaign was introduced in 189 countries. All major cities in the UK took part.

The event was organised by Helen Butler for the 3rd year. Besides SalsaNorthwest, Helen got the University of Central Lancashire and the Worldwide Samba Drummers on board. Joe Keegan from The Voice UK gave an exclusive presentation of his song “Pick Myself Up” from his new album.

Russell Hogarth UCLan Honorary Fellow, Community Ambassador, Co-founder & Chair Creative Communities Group UK and CCGUK Patron Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines [uclan honorary fellow and honorary Freewoman of the City of Preston] supported the campaign.

MEP Julie Ward spoke on behalf of the European Parliament and read her thought-provoking and powerful piece of poetry.
